As The Young Turks‘ tireless host Cenk Uygur clarified this week in the aftermath of the acquisition of Current TV by Al Jazeera, his show is not part of the deal. The weekday political analysis program is independently produced and contracted, free to move on to greener TV pastures in the second quarter of 2012 once the Current run comes to an official end.
Which begs the question: Where might The Young Turks wind up, assuming Al Jazeera does not decide to re-up? Uygur’s forme home MSNBC seems out of the question for obvious reasons. But what about CNN? With Jeff Zucker jumping into the executive suite and people like Jake Tapper joining the correspondent ranks, TYT could fit right into a younger, remolded version of the Atlanta cable giant.
