With the Oscars right around the corner, you would think business would be booming for R.S. Owens, the company responsible for making the trophies, right?

Yeah, not so much, as the company notified the Illinois Department of Commerce it will be laying off 95 employees on Dec. 17 — more than a third of its 251-person workforce, according to TheWrap.

St. Regis Crystal Inc. is set to acquire R.S. Owens on that day and the company will continue to make trophies for the Oscars, Emmys, MTV Video Music Awards and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Fun fact: It takes three to four weeks for R.S. Owens to make the 50 new Oscar statuettes in January.
