Beloved Sacramento Sportscaster Creighton Sanders Passes Away

From 1960 to 1992, Creighton Sanders, a.k.a “Moose,” was synonymous on local Sacramento TV with whatever was happening in sports. First with KXTV, then with KCRA. The retired sportscaster was found dead at his home on Sunday at age 85.

Just how different were things back when Sanders started out? How about showing up at the 1968 Sumnmer Olympics without any proper press credentials and still being allowed to interview gold medalists. From the Sacramento Bee obit by Matt Kawahara:

Creighton was one of the best,” former KCRA anchor Stan Atkinson said. “And a lot of it was because he had this blustery, old-dog, bull-in-a-china-shop kind of charm about him that really won people over – especially sports guys. He was in every way a guy’s man…”
